Hello,

I have been type 1 diabetic for 19 years now and was switched from Lantus to Levemir 2 days ago.

I am struggling with my sugar levels today, before dinner levels were 4.1. Did novorapid to match carbs, then did my evening dose of Levemir and now my levels have jumped to 13 with no real reason behind it. I have done nothing different.

Has anybody else had a similar experience with changing background insulin? I just haven’t had levels this high in a while and it’s unnerving me a little.

Thank You

Were you started on a lower dose of Levemir? When I changed basal insulins, I had slightly less than needed and then built up to the correct amount.

Why were you switched?

Hey, I have been put on the exact same dose of Levemir as I was Lantus, only difference is I’m now splitting the dose. So I’ll do 80% of it in the evening then the rest first thing.

I was changed over by my consultant due to have lots of inconsistent nighttime and morning levels each day.

I’d guess you need slightly more Levemir than you did Lantus. That’s a known thing.

However, I wouldn’t make any changes until I’d given the Levemir a few days to get a clearer picture of what’s happening.

Well you have to allow 3-ish days for Lantus to be anywhere near out of your body so probably from tomorrow, you should commence doing a full 24 hour basal test so you can then start to adjust the two doses and timing thereof to better match what your body actually needs.
