Type 1.5 LADA
Hello!
I’m MK
New to the forum but had LADA since 2018.
Diabetes burnout definitely hitting.
Does anyone have any information on LADA? Even my doctors seem to be clueless.
Help.
Regards
MK

I guess I am LADA as I was diagnosed at the age of 53. My consultant just flags it as T1 which it is with a slower onset.

I was diagnosed in 2008 and was determined to get perfect levels, which is impossible!!! I got a pump and got better at it, then a sensor and got even better results then hit a wall .... and burnout.

It is impossible to get perfect levels. All we can do is the best that we can. It took me a long time to ask for help and it was people on here who helped me recognised burnout.

I had counselling for years old and only finished last November. Very helpful and I would never have expected to be someone needing counselling before dealing with diabetes.

If you are finding things difficult ask for help. You won’t be the first.

Hi and welcome.

How do you manage your diabetes? Are you on insulin and if so, which one(s)? Do you have Libre or other CGM and is that perhaps causing you to put too much pressure on yourself to get perfect results? There is sometimes a lot of misunderstanding about what is normal with respect to BG levels and what a CGM shows and people seem to be becoming increasingly obsessive about keeping spikes below 10 or below 8.5 or whatever and it really is unrealistic to achieve all the time. Good diabetes management is all about balance and I find that sharing thoughts and ideas with others here on the forum helps me to find that balance for me and stops it getting too far out of perspective or reason.

If you can tell us a bit more about your diabetes and how you manage it, we might be able too help you rationalise it a bit or offer suggestions of things you can try which will improve it without adding too much extra effort or stress or indeed reduce the effort.

Welcome to the forum @Mkthebrave

My understanding is that LADA (latent autoimmune diabetes in adulthood) is a term some Drs use to refer to Type 1 that comes on slightly more slowly in some adults, with a more gradual loss of beta cells.

Not all Drs like the term, and some simply call it T1.

Most with a LADA diagnosis on the forum are treated must like T1s, with the same access to training courses, technologies etc. Some are initially mistakenly diagnosed with T2, but later recategorised.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing diabetes burnout.

Are you being seen at a hospital clinic? Or is your care currently under your GP?
