Type 1.5 LADA
Hi,
a routine blood check in November found out I had high blood glucose. I then had high HbA1c and my GP was switched on enough to know I did not fit either type 1 or 2. Age 43 and always kept fit and a healthy weight.
GP did some more blood tests and I found out last week I have LADA type 1.5. I have been referred to hospital and have an appointment with a specialist on the 9th Jan to see what happens next.
I didn't think I had any symptoms at first but after a month of reducing snacking and unnecessary sugars I have stopped drinking and peeing as much!

Anyone else similar!!

Welcome to the forum @Mark4842

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, bur glad that your GP was on the ball, lots of people in your situation get a real runaround before getting an accurate diagnosis.

Hopefully getting your Dx earlier will mean better treatment from the off, and straight into MDI to get used to it straight away.

Hello @Mark4842 welcime to the forum. I am delighted to hear your Gp was aware and bold enough to do additional testing . Many folks here have spent far too long being a square peg being shoved into a round hole.
You will soon be under the care of the specialists.
Feel free to ask all the questions you need to about diabetes as we have many knowledgeable people on here.

We often describe LADA also known as 1.5 as a slow onset T1.

It probably all seems rather scary to you right now but I would like to try and reassure you that diabetes in all it’s various forms ( their are quire a few) is a condition that we mostly manage ourselves with some guidance/support from our docs and nurses.

Welcome to the forum Mark.

Hi Mark and welcome from me too.

I was diagnosed Feb gone with diabetes and I was one of those who was misdiagnosed and went through 6 weeks of Type 2 oral meds and very strict diet before starting on insulin and then eventually being tested and diagnosed as Type 1 in June, so you are lucky to get the correct diagnosis straight off.
Have you been started on insulin yet and if so which ones?

Welcome to the forum @Mark4842

Like you I was diagnosed with T1 but it didn’t get me until aged 53. There quite a few of us on here who were late starters. I think for those of us that are diagnosed later, the destruction of the beta cells, that make the insulin, happens more slowly than for the younger ones. This is how it often gets misdiagnosed as T2, so it was good that your GP was on the ball.

Your appointment is not far off, but keep a watch on the symptoms (4Ts: Toilet, Thirsty, Tired and Thinner), and go back if you feel unwell.

Thanks for all the kind words. No insulin or medication yet but less than a week until my hospital appointment😉
