Type 1.5 LADA
i have been a type 2 diabetic for 19 years and all of a sudden they stopped my glicazide and metformin and upped my insulin . They think they have misdiagnosed me as I did not have the traits of type 2 I am very skinny and have lost a lot of weight lately . Is there anyone else out there with a similar diagnosis ?

Welcome! It seems quite common - not me, but there'll be others along with similar stories. From what I've seen, getting it properly diagnosed and treated can only be a very good thing.

Adults with LADA are frequently misdiagnosed. The destruction of the beta cells can be very slow so does not appear to be T1 initially.
It is likely that you now have insufficient insulin being made, hence the weight loss.
What insulin have they put you on. It will be a lot easier and flexible if you use a basal/ bolus regime. Often if people are in the care of a GP they are given mixed insulin, which is very limiting. Let us know how you are doing.

Hello, Peachey, Juliet @TheClockworkDodo is right, in that I was misdiagnosed as Type2 to begin with, because of my age at diagnosis (51).
It took me a year to get properly diagnosed, though! Like you, I’d lost an awful lot of weight, but none of the Type 2 meds ever worked, and my levels only started coming down to anywhere near normal when I started insulin. So I never had the in-between phase that a lot of LADAs have, juggling more and more Type 2 meds as their pancreas gradually fails. My diagnosis was just changed straight from Type 2 to Type 1 once my GAD antibody came back positive, and I started on a full basal bolus insulin regime.
Now you’ve been rediagnosed, hopefully you’ll start feeling a lot better. I know when I started insulin, I hadn’t realised how awful I'd been feeling, until I suddenly had a lot more energy and started getting less skinny!
