Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1.5 LADA
Hi everyone I am a LADA diabetic like to be akward and be type 1.5. You should see the looks I get from the medical community when they ask If I am type 1 or 2. Anyway I became a diabetic by the stress caused by repeated ankle surgeries, for a condition called avascular necrosis of both tallus (both ankles). Trying to find out if I need to isolate my family and I for 12 weeks. I am a my wifes carer (she has an aquired brain injury) and have two children one of which has autism spectrum disorder, so got quite a bit to think about. My main thought is should I pull my kids out of school and put us all in isolation??

As I understand it, people with 'ordinary' chronic health conditions are categorised with the over 70s, who are 'strongly advised' to limit the social contact that everyone else is being 'advised' to do. People who need to self isolate for 12 weeks are being written to by the NHS over the coming days, to tell them what they should do.
I know that doesn’t help you to know if you fall into the self-isolation category, until you get the letter, or,not. I’m afraid it’s going to be a personal decision, unless you can get to talk to your GP on the phone in the meantime.

Thanks for your reply where did you hear that the NHS are going to write to people. Not heard that before. It would also be helpful to tell my parents and parents in law whom are all in the of 70s

As I understand it is still not totally clear, the Deupty Medical Officer, said this morning, they are writing to those who the identify at extra risk, but they are envisaging it will take at least a week.

Thanks for your replies Robin. My doctor advised to isolate, so that's us all in isolation.

Wait and see if the NHS advise you need to isolate - you may not actually need to 'religiously' but of course everybody needs to maintain social distancing throughout whoever they are whatever they have or don't have and however old they are.

The updated advice from DUK
suggests social distancing if your diabetes management is good.

I would wait and see.

Thanks for your reply I appreciate it. Our doctor has said to isolate so we are. Obviously I haven't listed all our families medical history and it's a little bit more complicated and complex.

Thanks for your reply our doctor has asked us to isolate. Our family medical history is more complicated and complex than I can go into and it was our unique situation and our doctors that made me come to this decision.

Hope the isolation is going OK @Ceebee

These downloadable resources including suggestions for isolating with diabetes have been very well received in the online diabetes community...

Oh... and welcome to the forum!

It sounds like you now have a clear decision.

A new way of life for now. We have found it good to set ourselves a routine,
and have been amazed at how many resources there are online.
And there is always the forum
