Type 1.5 LADA
Hello, my husband has just been diagnosed with type1.5 LADA and at the moment we don’t know whether we are coming or going . There is so much to learn

There is, but you will get there, and it goes get easier. Is there anything thatcis being a particular issue? Has be got a libre or other continous glucose monitor?

Hi, he is still in hospital his blood glucose is ranging from 15to 25 , his ketones were 4.6 but have now come down to 0.4, the hospital won’t let him home till the bloods are 14. He has all the testing kit and is having insulin, am I right in thinking that if blood sugar is high then he needs more insulin? It’s so confusing and he isn’t the best at remembering what docs are telling him .

Yes, high blood sugar means he might need more insulin, low blood sugar (hypo) means he needs some fast-acting glucose eg Dextrose tablets or jelly babies. Do make sure to get some hypo treatments for him and ensure he always has them with him.

I strongly suggest he or you make some notes about the basics.it really helps in an overwhelming time.

I recently heard the advice to ask the doc if you can record what they are saying.
Most phones include a voice recording app which can be really handy for this.

There is a lot of information to take onboard at the start. But, it does get easier.
A few months back, there was a really useful thread about the most useful advice for someone newly diagnosed with Type 1 (LADA Is a type of Type 1). Maybe @everydayupsanddowns can remember where that was.
I know the most valuable advice was to ask questions - that's what the forum is here for.

You will need lots of support in the early days so make sure you are an emergency contact number to use if needed, and if he struggles to remember things then try to make sure you are there when they are giving important information, take a note book or ask for it the be written down for you as the detail can be really important.
They may want to bring his blood glucose down slowly so don't be surprised if he is given conservative doses of insulin to start with. The body has to adjust to lower blood glucose levels to avoid issues with eyes and nerves.
