Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello,
Is there a connection between LADA and Gestational diabetes? I had Gestational 22 years ago and was diagnosed with type 2 12yrs ago however I have all the criteria of LADA not type 2! I have been referred by my GP to the diabetic specialist team but after a conversation with one of the nurses who has booked me in she seem to doubt I had LADA because I'd had Gestational??

Well they'll find out if they do a C-peptide test, Laura.

Gestational D has an association with later developing T2 - but so many people are misdiagnosed T2 when they are LADA anyway - it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they're connected.

best test for LADA is the antibody test GAD65, islet cell antibodies and a third antibody that escapes me,
by far the commonest antibody is the GAD65.
C-peptide also tends to be low in Lada whereas it is high/normal in type 2 as trophywench says
all very confusing - looks as though there is a continuum from classic type 1 through all grades of LADA ie those with high and only slightly elevated antibodies to classic type2.
