I feel the need to rant. Before I received diagnosis I was bed-ridden. I have had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment to see the Practise Nurse. I was given folder with some very basic advice to keep me going until the appointment and have been left to fend for myself. I have worked so hard and altered my diet radically but I am still ill and still don't know what I am doing. When I went for my appointment this morning it had been cancelled in error by a muppet of a receptionist at the same time I had telephoned to cancel a different appointment. I was distraught and had to go home sobbing. So after having to wait 3 WEEKS to see a professional for advice I have been side-lined by incompetent staff at the Health Centre. I am so disgusted. Aaaaargh.

Sorry to hear this - when you feel a bit calmer can you call the health centre and explain the problem and ask if as they cancelled in error could they get you an urgent appointment or see you if anyone cancells.

Depending on the outcome of that I would consider complaining to the health centre.

Hope that you can get something sorted out and rant away.

That's awful :( Bad at any time, but when you have jsut been diagnosed it is particularly terrible as you must feel so upset and confused. I hope they have mad you a priority now for an appointment.

It sounds like many people you have been left to fend for yourself in those crucial first few weeks which I personally think is unforgiveable. It's not surprising that you still feel ill as you probably don't have much idea of whether what you have been doing is correct or not, and that must be stressful.

I would suggest that you begin making a food diary, recording everything and in particular the amount of carbohydrates you are eating - this should be very useful when you do get your appointment. Try to limit your carbohydrate consumption to small portions, as it is carbs that will raise your levels and make you feel unwell. I presume you don't have a meter to test your levels with? If that is the case then ask your doctor or nurse for one when you see them - don't be fobbed off with the objection that you don;t need to test, everyone can benefit from knowing how different food affects their levels so they can make informaed decisions about their diet.

I hope that you get the appointment soon and that it goes well - do please aks if there is anything we can help you with 🙂

I hope they gave you a new appointment, and a priority one at that, there and than so at least you know that you will be seeing some one soon.

In the meantine, well done for making tha changes you have already. Any change will be benefiting you. Just a thought but if you have had to make quite drastic changes it could be that that's making you feel ill at the moment as your body gets used to the changes. It will have got used to the higher glucose levels you've been having and might take a while to get used to the changes. Take care and keep posting. XXXXX
