A survey has been sent to all GP practices in the Bristol North West and Bristol West areas by Labour parliamentary candidates Darren Jones and Thangam Debbonaire to find out from GP practices what pressures they face and what support they need from Government.

The survey comes two weeks after St Martins surgery in Knowle announced their closure, with GP partners pointing to Government reforms as the cause. The partners at St Matins claimed that Government policy had left them with too much paperwork to deal with and that newly qualified doctors aren't coming through the system in the number that is required to meet patient demand. The closure comes in the same month as the annual NHS survey of nearly 1million patients confirms it is getting harder to see a GP.

Darren Jones and Thangam Debbonaire are seeking to understand the broader picture of pressures felt by GP surgeries in Bristol to identify whether the St Martins issue is a one off or the start of a trend that could threaten the future of GP services in Bristol.
