Kiss-A-Pig contest raises diabetes awareness

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A local doctor is working to bring awareness to diabetes and highlight the role pigs play in diabetes care with the Kiss-A-Pig contest.

In early 20th century diabetes research, pigs were one of the first sources of insulin. According to the American Diabetes Association, since 1921, insulin has played a vital role in treating millions of people with diabetes.

Well apart from piggies saving my life with their gift of insulin, I'd always loved them anyway from the first piglet I ever saw when I was about 4 years old ! - have lots of piggy pictures on the walls and ornaments and Alan likes em too.

How can you not like a baby Gloucester Old Spot or a Sanglier bebe? - little fat stripy humbugs on legs!

Tamworth gilts are the best pigs! Not that I'm biased being a Midlander by birth and seeing bronze haired pigs every time we visited Acton Scott Working Farm Museum.
