You wouldn’t think it to look at her but little Yorkshire Terrier Milly has changed Yvonne Nicholson’s life.
Dogs are known for their company and loyalty but, for Yvonne, Milly is literally a lifesaver.
Yvonne, 54, has brittle diabetes – a rare form of the disease which means she often has no warning that her blood sugar is dangerously high or low.
It had left her unable to leave the house without a carer – usually her 25-year-old son Adam or mum Phyllis – and everyday tasks, such as going to the supermarket or hairdresser, were fraught with pressure.
