Just had my second appointment at the clinic
the doctor i saw i could not understand a lot of the thing they were saying but the jist of of it
my HbA1c was good 5% down from 13% blood pressure normal
But she said i had been diabetic a long long time also said we think your type 2 but still not 100% sure
and had very high protein in my urine and gave me a script for Lisinopril
off you go and we will see you in 3 months still very confused might go see my own doctor and see if he can explain it a bit better

Not sure of all the nuts and bolts of it, but one of the things being diabetic we need to guard against is kidney damage. If it is only slight, the damage can be repaired which is why you have the tablets and the instruction to go back in 3 months.

For a proper explanation it will pay you to see your doctor who will give you better information than I can. There is a lot of information to take in all in one go so take a note pad or a friend/companion to be another pair of ears for you.

But, in the meantime, Lisiopril is an ACE inhibitor drug (ACE = angiotensin converting enzyme), which is used to reduce high blood pressure, but also to protect kidneys from damage. Having protein in urine indicates some damage, but it may well be reversed by taking Lisinopril.

Hi Beeman.

During my diagnosis in hospital, I was also told that they thought I might have had diabetes for 5 or 6 years before being diagnosed, and during a multitude of tests I was told that I only had 51% kidney function, and as a result my blood pressure tablets were changed to Lisinopril, and over the last 5 years this has shown an improvement in my kidney function.

Hope that may help to alay any of your fears.
