So im kicking myself as I have accidentally put reciver though washing machine lfruday night and didn't notice until yesterday morning no it doesn't work dexcom would be unlikely to replace it because it's something I did so will probably have to fork out fof a new one urgh silly me

Aaaaaaaagh. So frustrating.
You could tell them and they might be sympathetic, but as you suggest it is likely that you will have to fork out for it. I hope that you get it sorted.

Yes someone did suggest that. I did filled a product request form and put in what I had done(i couldn't see a normal email address and didnt feel up to ohoneinng plus lines might have been closes) and asked if there was anything that can be down but it likely that there say to buy another one. Finger pricking while I wait that can get a bit tricky in a retail job.

Commiserations, @rayray.

Tongue in cheek alert….
It’s said on here so many times that one persons experience does not prove anything, and you can’t say something happens reliably and scientifically until there’s been a full study….
I think we need a much larger sample of people putting their receivers through the wash before we can reliably say that they aren’t waterproof…any volunteers?

I think Dexcom say there there aren't waterproof. I. Think there say they are splash resistant though that's a lot more then splashs haha. Not sure you'll find Manny people being as silly as me.

I lost my Libre reader in the garden a year gone June and it was a very wet month. I found it a month later and it was stuck upside down in amongst some stems and full of water which literally poured out when I turned it the right way up so it was clearly very water logged. It obviously wasn't working and I didn't expect tht it would recover but I got a tub of dehydrated couscous (I used an old takeaway tub which had a lid. I heated the dry couscous in the tub in the microwave and then I put the reader in the quite warm couscous and put the lid on and left it for days. I did this several times (with the same couscous... would work with rice too I am sure), fished the reader out, heated the dry couscous in the microwave again, cleared any bits of couscous from the inlets on the reader and buried it back in the warm couscous, trying the battery charger on the reader after each attempt to dry it out. After a couple of weeks, I got it to accept charge again and work, although the battery needs recharging much more regularly and it has a water mark on the screen, but it does still work. I was lucky that I had managed to acquire a spare, so I don't use it regularly but I keep it as a standby. Just saying that sometimes they can be raised from the dead if you are persistent. Don't know if the action of the washing machine and the heat (depends on the setting you used for the wash) might do more damage than being out in the garden for a month, but worth a go. I really didn't expect mine to ever work again so it was only because I hate throwing anything out that I kept trying.
Good luck fixing it or getting a replacement.

Oh no. If they won’t replace it for free then it’s worth seeing if you can claim on your house insurance for accidental damage.
I don't actually have household insurance probelly something I should look into getting. I rent a room in a house

Ah yeah, it’s still worth having contents insurance and is generally pretty cheap. Is the reader on prescription or self funded is the other thing.

Yes I got this one from hospital but not sure I can actually have it on prescription

Just a question where did you get your spare form was it given to you for free or did you buy it. Although from others experience(and the fact I used a Abbott for the purpose of ketone testing) I've found abbot are a lot more willing to replace things then dexcom

I was lucky that a very kind member here was moving from Libre to Dexcom and no longer had a use for it, so very kindly passed it on to me. I had it well in advance of my losing my reader in the garden for a month, as I try to ensure I always have a back up plan although I have since learned that you can use the old original Libre reader with the Libre 2, it's just that you don't have the alarms with it. Of course none of that is of much help to you with your Dexcom but I would encourage you to do as I did and try to revive it in rice or couscous.

As an electrician and pump engineer loads of my gear gets soaked. I’ve saved a fair few bits and bobs by drying them with a hair dryer then when fully dry, try and charge it.

Libre sent me a new reader when I fessed up to dropping it down the toilet.
Admittlly I have also down that with one or them(i know I know! Should have learnt) and that time dexcom said no a replacement as it wasn't flauttly and my doing so I suspect that's what there going to say this time. That's what I mean by Abbott being more willing to replace things regardless what has happened to it then dexcom. Unfortunately the libre didn't work on me though

It begs the question would the sensor transmit if it was in the wash? Can I have 10,000 volunteers. I have put you down @Robin. Elf & Safety warning - you put the sensor in the machine and not yourself. Allergens - soap powder. May be hot!

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate washing machine / tech incident @rayray119 :(

Hope Dexcom are feeling very generous towards you <3

I'm holding as I haven't got a response to my email I didn't know if it will be checkky to say plotily something along the lines I know abblot are Kwon to replace their products when stuff like this happens.

While as as I suspected they said no to. Replacing it however it was looking promising at frist they were talking all the details for it and I rather they just tell me no straight off then going though the whole process of taking all the details and then saying no.

So that's a recovery ordered. In the top in 59.99 I had pay 4.99 for shipping costs
