Ketones advice

Hello all,

My blood glucose is 18.8 and I have 0.4 ketones, is this a level I need to worry about. My blood sugar was 8.5 before tea which was 2 burritos and I currently have 7.2 units of insulin on board.

I am not sure what to do? Is it best to have a pen injection in case the pump is not working? I can't see any bubbles or anything though?

Hi Rachel, sorry to hear this - my understanding is that it's only potentially a problem if ketones are above 0.6 and BG above 17. Keep testing and if BG rises then it would suggest a pump problem and a pen correction. Hope both levels come down soon.

Ketones now 0.8 and blood glucose 22. I have had a 5 unit pen correction. I think it is going to be a v long night.

Hope the pen correction sorts things out Rachel, it does sound like there might be a pump problem if levels are still rising.

Down to 0.1 and 18. Think I will try and get some sleep. Nathan has been waking at 5am the last few days, I am a broken woman.

LOL - sorry Rachel ! They have an infallible instinct of doing stuff like that just when you need it least, kids!!

Stupid highs are a feature of the first trimester; but notwithstanding that it sounds very much like a bad site to me. Think I'd have gone for a cannula change after you observed your BG responded to the jab.......

Set change done too. Work is v stressful at the moment too, and we are in the middle of sorting the purchase of a new flat. It is no wonder everything is all over the place.
