Type 1
can u get ketoacidosis with either type nof diabetes? i read that its more likely to happen with type 1, the reason im asking is i was admitted to hospital with keteoacidosis 6 wks ago, thats when i was diagnosed . im being treated with insulin just now but bloods now suggest type 2 but nurse said thats not always the case confused.com
 
I would of thought having some insulin function would stop you from getting to that stage, that's if in fact you are type 2...............but I suspect your type 1, could be wrong though....:D
 
thanks for the reply, dont really know enough about all this, still new to it. was really ill at diagnosis so was put onto insulin straight away.
 
type 2 can get iti had it last year
 
when you say bloods now suggest type 2, what do you mean by that?
 
I think if you would be unlikely to have ketoacidosis at diagnosis if T2 as a T2 would usually have some pancreas function at that time. The 'Think like a pancreas' book says you can get Ketones with some insulin in your system if for whatever reason (usually another illness/virus) your body is unable to use the insulin. As Gail says. 🙂

Do you know what blood test resultsyour team are looking at/puzzled by? Quite often people with T1 have a 'honeymoon' where their insulin requirements reduce temporarily from the initial large doses at Diagnosis.

Also there are tests that are usually carried out at diagnosis of T1for a type of antibodies in the blood. Do you know if these were done?

Looking back at your introductory thread you had a throat infection at the time of diagnosis. High glucose levels + another problem like an infection can mean result in a person with T2 having insufficient insulin to prevent ketones rising and ketoacidosis.
