I bought a box of sugar free fruit drops today.

I had 2 this afternoon, and have been parping all evening!

They've just gone in the bin!

You might find they also contain a surprising amount of carbs. My sister bought me some Thorntons diabetic fruit drops and they have 7 carbs per sweet! 😱

Could have been very useful for offering to people who make annoying comments about diabetes.

That'll be sorbitol.

That'll be sorbitol.

Or mannitol or xylitol -- same difference whichever way.

Reminds me of when I was first diagnosed (July 2000); I too was suckered into buying some so-called "sugar-free" boiled sweets (I think they contained mannitol as the sweetener and bulking agent) -- I rapidly found that although technically "sugar-free", they spiked my BG just the same, and had the notorious laxative effect besides. Still, at least these weren't so-called "diabetic" sweets; I think that describing sweets (at least those sweetened with one of the sugar alcohols mentioned in this post) that way is now forbidden under the Trade Descriptions Act. Or at any rate should be.

As I discovered ... before dx I consumed some Halls Cough/Throat sweets to relieve a sore throat.
I was transformed into a human sewer.😱
Worse still, that evening I was committed to attend a curry club which I had organised ...😱

If the sweets don't get you, the curry will... 😉
