my daughter is type 1 diagnosed 10 months ago. we are trying to get her an insulin pump but have been told that she is not eligible for one. she is 12 years old ( the thresh hold is under 12). she would be eligible if she had an HBa1c over 8.5 and regular night time hypos. she manages her blood sugars very well and is very conscientious. she is involved in a lot of competitive sport and often has delayed hypos after sport. i have persuaded the consultant to apply for funding which is good - but wondered if anyone else has had this experience and what obstacles to expect... Any advice welcome.

thank you

Hi Kathleensiobhan, welcome to the forum 🙂 I would advise contacting the people at INPUT for advice - they are very good at helping people get pumps even if they don't quite fit the criteria 🙂

I believe that if the consultant says she needs a pump they have to fund it.

Hi and welcome 🙂

She doesn't have to have regular night time hypos. The NICE guidelines define "disabling hypoglycaemia" to include anxiety about hypos and a resultant negative impact on lifestyle. You could easily argue that your daughter's delayed hypos after sport are having a negative impact (and could even prevent her continuing to take part in her sports....). See the NICE wording:
