Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice. Over the holiday period someone mentioned something to me which I dismissed but am now thinking about it all the time🙄. When I had my one and only HbA1c (sp?) blood test in July it came back as 74. I had no symptoms and simply accepted the conclusion from the smiley GP. I left the surgery with a prescription for metformin (two tabs twice daily). In August I had a random blood test from a quizzical dietitian, it was late afternoon/ early evening and I can't remember if I had eaten or not. and the monitor showed 8ish. I took all the dietary advice and also started on the metformin and since then my BGL testing have consistently been 5's, 6's and very occasionally low 7's. I can't do much about it now but I was asked why I didn't request a 2nd blood test in July (there was so much going on that I didn't even think to do that), my friend also asked if I had thought that the original test might have been rogue? Could that be possible, or does the metformin work that fast or did I just catch the whole diabetes thing in the early days?Just wondering... I am due my 6 month review in Feb but it is an interesting thought that I now cannot get out of my head.😱😱

Hi Sharron
I can’t comment on the action of Metformin as I have no experience.
I would suggest that you gather data including BG, carbs and meds taken and go armed with these, along with this question to your review. This along with a new HbA1c will give a good picture on which to make decisions.

Hi,

Thank you, this time I will be better prepared now I have an idea how the surgery operates. I am interested to see what they say especially as the advice was (wait for it) NOT to self-monitor...🙂

Grrrrrrrr. Would they drive anywhere blindfolded!! Why would anyone negotiate this condition without having an understanding of what is happening on the way!!
Let us know how the appointment goes.
