Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I?m male, 47, 12 stone and reasonably fit, I?m type 2 with morning fasting levels 8-9, and a couple of hours after meals around 12-13. 120mg Gliclazide and statins in the evening.
I?m wondering if anyone has similar experience, whether this is normal and if not what the next stage might be ? Doctor always seems to dismiss my questions and last time warned me not to look on the internet because I?d have too many questions !!!!

I'm type 2 on metformin and pretty similar to yourself, about7.5-8 in the morning. I rarely test 2 hours after eating, but when I do 11 is normal. I test 4 hours after eating and aim to be below 7 or even better below 6. Yours sounds slightly high but nothing extreme - maybe you could build in an extra walk a day or tweak your diet? I find if I eat after 6pm my sugar levels nudge up in the morning so try to have dinner at 5pm then go for a couple of miles walk to bring it back down.

your levels do seem a little high, do you know what your A1c is? that would be a good indication of how you are doing.

I think doctors don't like us using the internet because of their lack of knowledge, and will find it difficult to answer our questions. I don't see whats wrong with having lots of questions either, this is a chronic condition with awful consequencies if not well controlled, which is largely self managed. i think questions should be encouraged.

Many thanks for the replies. A1c is now 7.5 down from 13 about 9 months ago. The Problem with consultants is while I appreciate they're very busy, I get a 10.minute slot every 4-5months to try to get the finer points explained because obviously its all new, and quite honestly all he wants to do is look at the blood test results and adjust the prescription.
Interesting you mention not eating late tho because we always eat around 8.00, so I might try eating earlier.
Thanks again

That is exactly the reason for this site - ther are so many people with questions that doctors do not have time for - and it is so frustrating - we are all mad about it! I would suggest slightly lowering your carbs also. Pile on the carb free/low carb veg! Not spuds LOL!!!
Great news on your A1c - 🙂
