Hi,

I've had Type 2 diabetes since mid summer 2018.

I've been getting sharp intermittent pain in lower abdomen/lower left quadrant. This is unlike any UTIs I've had before. Saw a nurse this morning and did urine sample, been sent to lab as protein is evident to some extent. 48 hour result wait time.

This summer just gone my hba1c was in early 50s, which was due to having problems swallowing merformin at that time as I was having relatively severe acid reflux. At this time nurse said that I should go on glicazide but I refused and said I would like to wait 3 months. The tiredness calmed down as did the headaches and frequent urination. So I am OK on merformin at present. But - I wonder if I may have compromised some kidney function as a result of not going on glicazide at that time...

Relevant advice would be much appreciated.

Nice to see you again @Pamela Giddings

Sorry to hear you are experiencing some pain and discomfort :(

And sorry that you’ve had a little protein found in your urine - I’ve had this occasionally over the years, but no follow-up has ever been deemed necessary.

It would be worth speaking to your GP or nurse about your kidney worries, I think Metformin is contraindicated if you have chronic kidney disease, so they will be able to let you know if your results suggest switching from Met, but I suspect you are a long wa6 away from that so try not to worry 🙂

Hi and thanks for the hello (again, lol)

I appreciate your advice, results for urine lab culture should be back tomorrow, will post update as relevant.

I only recall having some advice that I had a trace of albumin urinary related but that was quite a few years ago. Maybe 5/6.

Anyways, thank you again, also take it easy yourself

Pam
