Hi All,
I have just signed up to this forum. I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes about 6 months ago. I used to be a fit and active person until I got married. I guess contentment set in. I put loads of weight on, almost twice the size I used to be. I stopped playing football and walking everywhere.
Then, about 7 months ago I got a thirst that nothing would shift. So off to the Doctors I went. Had the blood tests. I was called back and given the news that I was type 2 Diabetic. Well it hit me hard. I felt that it was unfair and unjust. I am only 34!!!!
It took a few weeks to come round to the idea, but not truly accept that I was diabetic. It took me two or three months for that to kick in.
Being a positive person I deceided that I was not going to give in to this and make some lifestyle changes that were long over due. I changed my diet and started to get used to taking tablets everyday (not something I was ever good at, even for anti-biotics).
I started riding my bike and getting fit. This has done wonders for me. I have lost over 4 stone in weight, fit back into 80% of my clothes and have got my diabetes under full control. I now feel better than I have ever felt.
All I can really say to anyone who is just diagnosed is to stay positive (easier said than done) and make a few adjustments and have the odd treat and don't let it rule your life.
