Recently started a pump to try and get better control after saying never for years - having a few teething problems but think it will work out
Lucky enough to have the Libre sensor which was a life changer for me - love it 🙂
Possible charcot foot - which has also been a life changer but not in a good way :(

Hello and welcome @akb , glad you've joined us 🙂

There's quite a number of us using various pumps and also using the Libre, glad you're getting better control. The tech is most definitely a life changer. 🙂

Hi akb and welcome to the forum. 🙂 Only 1.5 years into using the pump myself but has made a big difference to my life. Which pump did you go for? Good you've got the Libre as well. I'm only a very occasional user at the moment (self-funding) as I haven't been given them on prescription yet.

Hi Matt Cycle
thanks for your reply.
I have to Ypso pump really like it just struggling when my sugars go a bit high seems to take a long time to come back down and then sometimes end up low which starts the yoyo process!!

Not sure how I'd manage without the sensor now, as didn't check sugars before - finger picking hurt so much and would often just forget - I know crazy - I wrote a letter to my local CCG whether or not it did the trick I don't know but happy to share

What pump have you? and how do you find it?

It's possibly your basal settings that need adjusting. When I got mine the rep used an algorithm based on weight and current total daily dose to calculate the various basal rates. They were a bit low and therefore my levels were running high. Just needed altering slightly. Basal testing is useful as well.

The rules changed on 1st April this year for prescribing Libres for T1's so I'm going to bring it up at my next clinic appointment. I'll see what they say and if it's a no I might need your letter. :D

I'm on the Medtronic 640G - love it. Had a choice of Medtronic, Cellnovo (patch pump), Animas Vibe and both Accuchek pumps. Both Cellnovo and Animas have stopped making pumps now so I think I made the right choice. Wish I'd considered a pump earlier. A couple of months after I got it I wrote a long piece about it.

I'd say so about the basal, I have been doing adjustments myself but you know yourself all sorts of day to day things can effect sugars (well certainly for me!) Took me ages to agree to try a pump and certainly my sugars have been better and as you mention in your piece have to have alternatives in case of anything happening which isn't really a major thing but just remembering - that's my problem! but getting there. Started in April so still fairly new for me, I do like it, with anything there are always pro's and cons 🙂

Good luck with the libre, I know I was so lucky to get it and had no problems with my gp, which some of the others in my group did have.
All the best
Angela
