 so just been diagnosed I think.......

Phoned GP last week to get results of oral glucose tests (done cos I have PCOS) and first was 7.5 and after lucozade and two hours was 12.9.

Was initally told that they would just retest again in a year and then got a letter to go and see the nurse to discuss results and have been booked in tomorrow for an hour long assessment.

Have thousands of questions but not sure where to start so will have to bear with me 🙄

Hi Dora 🙂

Fellow PCOSer here, all be it missing one now! :D

Hi Dora, welcome to the forum🙂 I think an OGTT above 11 is normally criteria for a diagnosis of diabetes. But let's wait and see what the doctor says. You will find a wealth of experience and lots of support here, so please go ahead and ask any questions you may have.

Hi Dora, welcome to the forum.

So I got the day wrong (doh!) and assessment was today. Got bloods taken which are sent away and trace my blood sugar for 28 days (?), eyes checked, feet checked, and checked my blood sugar with a strip which was 7.1. Think all was ok but not sure how good/bad that is for blood sugar....... Thank you all for replying to me and no doubt there will be lots more questions to come!

Hi Dora. The blood test that was sent away for is probably an HbA1c (you'll become familiar with this!) - this measures your average blood glucose levels over the previous 6-12 weeks (varies by person). The random fingerprick test is not bad at all - depends on when and what you last ate. We would hope for a level between 4 and 7 ideally (but not easy to attain a lot of the time!).

I await your questions! Don't worry, there will be time for you to absorb everything - nothing drastic is going to happen overnight, but perfectly understandable to be concerned about everything initially. Once you get to grips with the ins and outs diabetes is a very manageable condition provided you put the effort in🙂
