Hi there, you've come to the right place for support. I'm new to this and the folk here have been great. Diabetes a hard thing to come to terms with, I haven't managed it yet but I'm determined to do my best. I couldn't begin to do it though, without the encouragement of the inhabitants of this place.

We're not going to tell you what you need to do, I think you know that already, but if there's any way we can encourage you in your efforts, I'm sure everyone will gladly step up.

hi there ray and welcome i am so pleased you have found this place , firstly the nastyness you show to your loves ones is common they say you take it out on the ones you love and it is so true , we all get very moody and knarly , and unfortunetly the people close get the brunt of it , we have all done it one time or another i know its hard but they do understand im sure , the crisps thing is annoying as the things we loved are no longer allowed in large amounts the thing is it is all about moderation i myself still have crisps i have walkers baked crisps they are really nice and also i buy alot of crackers they aint crisps but there similier and if you have in small amounts nothing is a sin .The drinks side of things well i dont drink so cant really say to much on that but what i do know is drink will only make your depression worse alchohol is a depressent , if you drink to feel like your mates why do you need to do that? if there your mates and know your diabetic im sure they will understand why you aint rowling around talking jibberish , people on here drink and im sure they have the odd 1 to many , all of us have had to either give up or cut out alot and in the end you will get used to it .its just hard getting your head around it thats all, anytime you need a chat or some help come on here we are all such lovely people x

Hi Ray and welcome to the forum!:D

My son (11) is type 1 - but lots of information for type 1 and type 2 crosses over - so we all help each other. There are some lovely type 2's on here who i am sure will go out of their way to help with any questions you may have.🙂Afraid i cant help you with the drinking side as my son doesnt drink - yet! But there are plenty on here who do and will give you tips etc about how to best control it.🙂Bev

thanks bec

Hi Ray, welcome to the forum🙂 Very sorry to hear of the problems you have been having. It can take a while to get your head around things and for it all to sink in. Try not to feel as though you have to achieve everything at once - yes, you will probably have to change some things in your current lifestyle, but a lot of people find that they actually start to feel much better about things as they start to make those adjustments.

Your bad moods are very understandable, and you should be aware that this is common and made worse by the fact that your blood sugar levels have been higher than normal. As you begin to get them under control, this effect will fade and you will begin to feel more positive, I am sure.

Probably the best single thing you could do for your health is to stop smoking. This affects your diabetes in many ways, and stopping will give you some huge improvements, so definitely worth seeking out whatever help may be available from your doctor or NHS.

Talking about it to fellow diabetics is a great help, I think. We understand, have been there, and are at many different stages - some very experienced and some newly-diagnosed. We are happy to help in any way we can!🙂

Hi Ray, welcome to the forum, everyone is, indeed, lovely, and always willing and able to help.

Hope you feel better about your D soon - I'm only in my 3rd month and so far it does seem to be all about giving up the nice things in life, or at the very least, cutting down. It's hard to always think about the long term, when you want a doughnut (or 3!) NOW !!

I'm sure your loved ones will forgive you, Ray, they will understand it's a stressful time for you right now.

xx
