Type 1
Hi. My name is Kevin and I was diagnosed with Type 1 around 17 years ago in my mid 40's which came as a bit of a surprise as I had always thought that Type 1 affected people when they were much younger. I've learned a lot since but there always seems to be something new.

Hello, Kevin, and welcome to the forum. There are quite a few of us ‘late developers’ of Type 1 on here. I was 51 at diagnosis, and was misdiagnosed as Type 2 to begin with because of my age.

Well I was 22 in 1972 and was told then you didn't have to be a child, it can hit at any age. And 46 years later there is still a fair bit new - there always will be cos nobody knows everything about anything! - so I don't expect for a minute I'll ever achieve that.

Hello from another late starter (53)
I have learnt loads from others on here, and it enables me to keep abreast of new developments.

Hello and welcome Kevin 🙂

I followed the rules and was diagnosed as a child 😉🙂

I've learnt so much from reading what others on here do to maintain control but there is always something new to discover.

Hello Kevin, and welcome to the forum 🙂

Unlike Flower, my diabetes has never followed any of the rules, and I'm another late starter, diagnosed at 44.

Hi Kevin, it was 54 for me and I know I'm not the latest developer around

Pitching in as another late starter 42 for me and like Robin I was misdiagnosed because of my age. Welcome to the forum 🙂

Hi Kevin, from yet another misdiagnosed late starter 24 years ago. Even after that time, I’ve learned more about diabetes on the forum than I ever knew as a doctor. That is an admission that will surprise no-one on this forum, for sure🙂
