Hi Sufi, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, what made you go for the check? Have you asked your doctor or nurse for a meter? If not, it's worth trying first. If they say you don't need to test but still want to then the cheapest option we have come across is the SD Codefree Meter which has test strips at around £8 for 50. The test strips are the main expense as they can cost up to £30 for 50 strips 😱

I'd suggest having a read of Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S in order to learn how to use the meter efficiently, and have a read of Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter so you can understand diabetes and how to manage it 🙂

Let us know if you have any questions and we will try our best to help! 🙂

Hi Welcome Fayazur. Sadly most practices won't provide us T2s with a meter or if they do, not enough test strips, unless we are on medications that can cause hypo's ( low blood glucose ) . Do check with your practice first though as some are more enlightened.
The cheapest meter that we know of to self fund is the SD Codefree , it's a perfectly good meter, no matter the price they all have to comply to certain standards, many here use this meter.
It's available from Amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...p=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B0068JAJFS

Or directly from Homehealth
https://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/codefree-blood-glucose-monitoring-system-mmoll-or-mgdl/L

We use the mmol/L measurement in the UK, You will also need to buy more strips and lancets as they only provide a few in the starter kit.

I must learn to type faster lol.

Welcome Fayazur from a fellow T2. I bought the SD Code free. I don't know if it's best. The strips for it as about £8 for 50. Strips can cost a lot more for other machines.

Hello and welcome to the forum. My sister's got that Codefree machine, we used it yesterday. It's excellent. 🙂 We got it off ebay.

Hi Northerner and Ljc I just ordered the device you recommended. They really have very good reviews. let see how it works. Thanks

Hi Fayazur.
Warm welcome to the forum.

Hi I am new here. Don't understand measuring units really. I used to know diabetes measurement are like on the scale 1 to 6 the normal range should be. But my doctor measured mine one which comes up 68 !!!!. She said normal range is below 42. my question is how come it be 42 or 68 whatever ? what kind of scale/units are those. how do I know how much is my glucose level in in scale of 1 to 6. Does anyone have any Idea about the testing methods or units.. thanks
