Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi

I'm not too sure what to say really but here goes. I'm a type 1 diabetic from Essex. I've had diabetes for 11 years but most of the time am still trying and hoping for the best.

My mum is a type 2 but other than her I don't actually know any other diabetics so thought joining the site would be a good way to find extra support .

Thanks for listening.

Welcome to the forum Laureny019 🙂

Have you seen the useful links thread?

Feel free to ask lots of questions, we are a friendly bunch here!

Hi Lauren, welcome to the forum 🙂 Diabetes can be an isolating condition, especially Type 1 as it is comparatively rare in the population, but there are lots of us here of all ages and experience, so I'm very pleased that you have joined us! It can be a great help just chatting things through with people who 'get it' without having to explain yourself or feel that you are being judged in any way. 🙂

What insulin regime are you on? Are there any particular areas you have problems with? Hopefully, by sharing experiences we can help you to get good control and manage your diabetes well. Don't be shy, no question is 'silly', and you're not expected to know everything - there's always something new to learn or even misconceptions to be overturned 🙂

Hi Laureny. Welcome 🙂

All I can say is... you know an awful lot of us now !:D

Hi Lauren and welcome to the forums - I hope you find it a useful resource.

Thanks everyone. I'm currently on MDI, using Novorapid & Lantus. My main thing at the moment is trying to be a bit stricter on my carb counting as my hbA1c has been pretty poor lately & need to sort it out.

Hi Lauren

Hope you find the forums useful. Fire away with any questions/tips/concerns.

There are many people around here, including me, whose level of control/understanding/quality of life has been completely transformed by comparing notes with other diabetics online.

All the best and look forward to reading your posts.

Hi Lauren

You're not too far out of London - why not come along to a North London Young Diabetics meet up? We're a group of 20 & 30 somethings living in London and the surrounding areas who get together once a month or so for drinks or an activity of some sort.

Welcome to the forum Lauren 🙂 If you've not yet bought a copy of the Carbs & Cals book then I'd definately recommend it!
