I went on a pretty long car journey today, SELondon to Nottingham, to see my 'new' mother in law who is 97 tomorrow.
I ended up having 3 meals, all consisting of sandwiches and also including a bag of crisps. I had taken a couple of apples for the journey but it was a 'funny' food day.

I have just taken my BG reading 2hours after my last sandwich and it is 7.4 so I am actually quite pleased at that.

What sort of things do people tuck into their bag for this sort of day to limit any damage? I didn't want to seem rude to the lovely lady who had provided huge amounts of cheese for me ( being veggie) but it is a bit difficult isn't it? !! (It was lovely to have some Stilton though I have to say !!

I usually do what you do, and prepare my own sandwiches - then I know what's in them and they are cheaper and tastier too! 🙂

I didn't take my own, she made a ploughmans' lunch, then 'tea' and a sandwich was all I could find on the way home !!
I think I shall do what you in future !!

Sandwiches again , apples bananas and grapes are a good one and as a treat a bag of crisps sometimes :D

I've not yet had to cope with a journey but suspect I'll have to take/buy a salad cos I cant do bread unfortunately.

I'm in Nottm Anne, you could have popped in for a cuppa lol

Aw Klocky... maybe next time !!!

apples grapes and crisps... sounds more or less what I had... that's good. Just got to cut out all that cheese next time !!!!!

bananas I love, but people seem a bit doubtful about them I think.

I've been testing bananas over the past week and ripeness is key for me. If you look at the chart in the link below, i'm fine with them up until about #4. Any more ripe (yellow) than that (see #'s 5 & 6) then I get a spike in my BG levels. Will be different for everyone though and also size will change things, I stick with medium-sized ones.
