Found out I had diabetes a few months ago. Since then have done the X-PERT course which is run by our local diabetes nurses. Tried their way of dieting but blood sugars didnt come down. Since then found out that low carbing is the way to go so have just recently started this diet and low and behold my reading are coming down slowly.

Am looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing ideas etc

Hello & welcome! There are loads of very friendly & helpful people on here, so fire away if you've questions, or get stuff off your chest if you need to. 🙂

Hi, welcome to the forum 🙂 Great to hear that you have been given the XPert course, I hope that even though their methods didn't suit you, you still got a lot out of it. Are you able to test you blood sugars so that you can see the effects of different foods on it? I'm presuming so, from what you say. Diabetes can affect different people in very different ways so it is good that you appear to have found what works best for you. Are you on any medication for your diabetes?

There's lots of friendly, experienced people here, so if you have any questions please ask - nothing is considered 'silly'! 🙂 You might also like to browse our Useful links thread - particularly recommended is Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Hi all and thanks for the welcome. At present am on no medication but am trying to control by diet. When I started my morning readings were mid-8's - 9. Have now got them down into the 7's. Not brilliant but getting there. Am doing low carbing and get some brilliant day readings 2 hours after food so know its the right thing to do. Its hard going sometimes but manage it most of the time. Did come off at weekend cos it was my birthday so thought stuff it, am going to have what I want as a one-off. Am due my 3 month check next month so hopefully results will be better than original results.

Obviously am still learning but found the X-Pert course really informative and helpful. It was just the diet part that didnt work for me. Following their advice I couldn't get the readings down at all, it was only when I started low carb that I started seeing a difference. Have also lost 11.5lb so far so this is a bonus. Still have a long way to go on the weight side as well but will get there - am in for the long haul.

Sue

Welcome to the forum gossamersquare 🙂

It sounds to me like you are doing really well Sue, and well done on your weight loss 🙂 Getting good control of your blood sugar levels has been likened to a marathon rather than a sprint - things can't be changed overnight, but if you work a little at it each day then you will build up a body of experience that makes the longer term much more manageable 🙂

Well done for your improving levels 🙂

And if low carbing is helping your BGs and you are losing weight I think the weight loss will help your levels still further!
