Got my testing kit this morning - the Codefree one everyone here recommended - and set it up no problem. Did it a while ago before eating and it was 5.9 so will have dinner and do it again. Doing it wasn't as bad as I thought! One question about the kit - there is a small round plastic piece similar to the end of the bit you put the lancet in but with a rounder and bigger end and I can't find anything in the book to say what it is. Can you help? Thanks

Congratulations on your first test Flakie...it gets easier...soon you'll be able to do it with your eyes shut...the extra 'piece' is a spare...I had a Codefree to start with...had no idea what it was...had to ask too:D...don't forget to wait the two hours after eating before testing...good luck with your 'first result'.

Thank you Bubbsie - that's comforting to know I haven't missed something vital! I messed up the first one as I put the blood on the strip and then put it in the machine! Worked it out though!

Hahahahaha...that made me laugh Flakie...I've done that too.

Hi Flakie ~ pleased to hear your test kit has arrived and you've sussed out how to use it. 5.9 is a good number ~ depending on what your evening meal comprises of, that number could elevate by 2-3mmols ~ so your post bgl could be 7.9 or 8.9 or thereabouts so don't be alarmed at this number. I suggest you take a brisk walk (If you are able) after each meal ~ it will help lower your bgl🙂 good luck. Just out of curiosity could you please let us know what your 2hr post meal reading is?🙂 x

It is a bit long is t it :D

Have been testing myself today and so far - on waking it was 8.5. Two hours after breakfast which was two fried eggs on one slice white toast it was 10.3. Just before lunch at 1pm - tuna, cheese and salad it was 6.4 and now two hours later it is 6.8. Does that sound ok? Maybe the high reading was the toast?
Quick query - I've read that you shouldn't use alcohol wipes to clean your finger if you're out and can't get to wash your hands but have seen some alcohol free ones on Amazon from St John Ambulance. Would those be ok?

Those readings look fine, after 2 hours you are looking for no more than a 2-3 mmol rise, yes it may have been the toast as white isn't really recommended but also you started higher anyway, waking readings are often the last ones to come down though, if you like bread but are finding it a problem you could try switching to Burgen, wholemeal or hovis even do a lower carb white bread and see if that makes a difference, congrats on the great readings and keep up with the good work 🙂 xx

Thank you Kaylz. It's reassuring to hear that! I'll look for the Hovis one as I tried Burgen but wasn't overly keen. I do miss my bread! Got the carbs and cals pocket counter book and that's going to be very helpful in working out what I can have. :D

The Tesco in the next town here stocks it, I think Asda and Morrisons also have it, I've not tried it myself, I eat Tesco own wholemeal haha, Rye bread is supposed to be better tolerated too but I've not tried that either although I am going to,, I have the book too and its great 🙂 xx

I never bother with any kind of wipe.

I like the Burgen one but you need to find something you like. Have you tried making the flaxseed bread that Mark Parrott put up on the recipes section. That is very nice.

I feel like a celebrity.:D
