Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I have received a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes today
My blood sugars are mid 20s and been prescribed Metformin 500mg twice a day, feeling anxious

Hi Derek2210, welcome to the forum.

Glad you've found us as it's natural to feel anxious but with the right support, things can improve.

Was your GP able to give you any advice on how to manage your health moving forward?

Your blood sugar numbers are high at the moment but the medication should kick in and help reduce them down. Reducing carbs and sugar can also help to reduce your blood sugar levels, it's a topic frequently spoken about on the forum so do have a look around .

We've got a wealth of info on our main site, here's a good place to start https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes. Do let us know if there's anything we can help with or any concerns you may have.

Hi Derek, welcome to the forum. I know it's all a bit new for you, as you only found out today. Are there specific things that are making you anxious that you'd like to ask about?
I found out learning more about my type 2 helped me be more at peace with it. I signed up for the Learning Zone (orange link at the top of the page) and bought a couple of books on diabetes which were helpful. There are some recommended books here if you'd like to have a look.
I was on two 500g metformin a day until a couple of months ago when I had a medication review and now I'm on one. I went on a diet after I was diagnosed, and cut out the crisps and chocolate that featured heavily before in my diet, and now eat a low carb diet to try and keep my blood glucose level steady and to help me lose weight. There's lots of ways to address your diabetes, it's about finding out what works for you.
Let us know if you have any questions and I'm sure people will be happy to answer,
Sarah
