Hi, not sure what to say, feeling bit overwhelmed at the moment. I’m 41 and just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I had gestational diabetes with my 2 kids 10-12 years ago, but disappointed to get this diagnosis. I have some other health issues and it feels a lot. I have a good idea what i need to do, but hopefully some tips and support here.

Welcome to the forum
Sorry that you have now got a Type 2 diagnosis, were you told what your HbA1C was as that will indicate how far you are into the diabetes zone and therefore how much work you will need to do. Having had gestational diabetes then you likely have an idea of what needs to be done but ideas may have moved on a bit in the intervening time.
Have a look at this link for some good information and ideas for following a low carb approach which many have found successful. This will be suitable if you are going to try diet or diet and just metformin but caution if also on other meds. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Hi @Bear83 and welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry you've had to join us, but do know you're not alone in all of this. The community here provides a lot of support, advice or even just a listening ear when you need one. No question is silly or trivial, so if you'll have any - please ask away. At the same time, if you feel comfortable, feel free to share some things about yourself, it could help folk in giving advice or simply in knowing how best to support you.
Even when you know what 'you're supposed to do', juggling a diagnosis with other things going on in life (other conditions, work, being a parent and anything else) can definitely become exhausting and overwhelming, so do reach out on the forum or our Helpline if you feel that could help <3

Hi @Bear83 and welcome to the forum, we have many well inform members here, so ask as many questions as you wish.
Most members were overwhelmed at first, so no need to panic.

Alan 😉

Thanks for the link. I have 2 kids 11 & 9. I am waiting on surgery (5years) so my mobility has been limited and i have put on 3 stone or so in the wait time. I used to enjoy walking 4-5 miles multiple times a week and now with my back pain i can barely walk 1 without needing a lot of rest after. I will be heavily focussed on diet as exercise is limited. I enjoy cooking and baking, but my kids are fussy so making multiple meals etc is draining. Batch cooking ideas welcome or home baking that everyone can enjoy.

There are recipes for low carb cakes and biscuits on the web site sugarfreelondoner as well as savoury dishes which your kids may enjoy helping making.
The recipes on the Freshwell site are using real food and are designed to fit in with family meals. It may be an opportunity to introduce your kids to a more varied diet if they engage with supporting you in your quest to get to grips with your diabetes. It would be good education for them to learn about the condition.
There are many here who struggle with mobility but there are some seated exercises to help people keep moving more on the NHS website.
A low carb approach both helps people lose weight as well as reducing blood glucose.

Welcome to the forum @Bear83 There is a huge amount of information and support from people on here. I felt overwhelmed and confused when I got diagnosed earlier this year. Hope you get your surgery soon as it sounds like you lead a busy life. Wishing you well on your journey to manage your diabetes.
