hello everyone,

i was just recently diagnosed with T2 at my own doing, and am just looking for tips, advise and great food and sweet recipes that can help me control it better.

Welcome @MikeRead 🙂

Do you know what your ‘number’ was on the test? What kind of thing are you eating at the moment and do you have any weight to lose?

Hi

No i dont know what my numbers were, too nervous to ask, yes i would like /have to lose alot of weight.

im eating alot of Chicken, salmon, lamb,
Loads of green veggies like broccoli and beans, apples berries.

i have completely cut out for now chocolate and fizzy drinks, crisps and other snacks.

Well that all sounds a great start @MikeRead 🙂 I think it’s best to make gradual changes because it’s not wise to suddenly drop your blood sugar right down. Looking at your diet before diagnosis is a good idea as you can then spot things you can improve.

If you’re looking for ideas, there are some meal plans here:

https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/eating-with-diabetes/meal-plans

But you can just keep things quite simple as you seem to be doing. I know you understandably said you were scared to ask your number but you might find a home glucose meter useful as you could use it to test how you react to certain meals (ie if they push your blood sugar too high).

Don’t forget exercise either. A walk can help insulin sensitivity apart from the other health benefits.

Hello and welcome @MikeRead 🙂 I luv that 'for now' :D

If your starting point is fairly low on the scale you will probably be fine, but if you plan to get a meter to test your blood glucose levels you might check how beans affect you - I can apparently extract almost twice the listed amount of carbs from peas and beans - others have reported the same thing, so it might be something genetic which shows up once it is looked for. It solved quite a few puzzling results for me.
Apples are a problem for me as I have two apple trees in the garden and whilst one small and unripe apple is just about OK a big ripe one is not.

hi Mike, only got diagnosed myself, just over 2 weeks ago, still adjusting and figuring things out, experiementing, welcome
