I had my annual GP health check and have been diagnosed as prediabetic. Just here to say hello and learn more. I need to lose weight, and I am with Slimming World but now I think I need to reduce carbs so rethinking that. Anyway, hello every one.

Stick with slimming world & hopefully you will lose weight & more importantly the visceral fat around your organs to reverse condition.

Wife did that 6 years ago, told she was prediabetic then joined local SW group & went on to lose 5 stone, since then all bloods have been normal & her last Hba1c last year was 36.

Thank you, that's reassuring, I've lost 1st 5lbs since the end of November but I was thinking I'd need to chage to another plan. I very much appreciate your reply because it means I can carry on doing what I'm doing.

Slimming World do day they have programs suitable for people who are diabetic so you need to mention it to your consultant and they should be able to sort you a scheme which is lower carb, otherwise you could just make some substitutions for some of the high carb ingredients.

Just reducing the carbohydrates also reduces weight, blood glucose (and blood pressure if it's high) in most people.
Add more protein and a little more fat to make up for the calories lost by reducing the carbs.

In my case my BG meter guided me as to how much carbs and which carbs I needed to reduce in order to get my T2D in remission (I have been in remission nearly 4 years now).

Here's a link to the blog post which got me started in the right direction:

Welcome to the forum, and huge congratulations on your weight loss!

How are you finding it so far? Sounds like it is working well for you 🙂

If you wanted to check how your body is responding to the meals you are eating as part of your SW plan, you might like to get hold of a BG meter and check immediately before, and again 2hrs after the first bite.

Ideally you’d see a meal rise of no more than 2-3mmol/L between the 2 readings at the 2hr mark.

Members here have found the Spirit Tee2 to be reliable, with affordable strips.

What a great idea, thanks so much for the suggestion. I have my mum's old meter and strips so I'll give it a go.

Wow great weight loss.

What I observed with SW is it doesn't go heavy on any particular food, plus there's loads of flexibility on what to eat to suit each individual.

Highly recommend you make one dish & that is SW chicken curry using Mayflower curry powder, it tastes delicious & probably better than any takeaway curry, it's family fav in our house.

Thank you, we must be on the same wave length as we tried it last night and it was great! I did it with cauliflower rice though because I haven't figured out the whole rice and cerealthing yet and I'm trying to get out of the prediabetic range before my next blood test in March.

If you like the cauliflower rice then stick with it.
