I have just been diagnosed with type 2- diet controlled but have severe pain in my muscles mostly in my right leg and arm - so bad i can't sleep - painkillers not working - almost crying with pain should I go back to GP

Welcome to the forum lornwynn 🙂

Yes, you should go back to your GP or NHS Direct if you can't get in your GP.

Hopefully it's nothing major, I have heard that some statins can cause muscle pains as a side effect.

I found that and also my first BP med did too.

Welcome Lornwynn.

Glad to hear you have an appointment this afternoon.

We help where we can, but for somethings, seeing a GP or other health professional is the only right course of action.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Lornwynn, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about the muscle pain - how long have you been experiencing this? I hope that the doctor can help. Some people experience nerve pain shortly after diagnosis, due to changes made to bring blood sugar levels down - this can result in extra sensitivity until the body gets used to the new, lower levels. Certainly, you shouldn't feel stupid! Another common cause is if you have started on statins, as muscle pain can be a side-effect for some people.

There is a lot of good reading in our Useful links thread to help you learn how to manage your diabetes well. I would particularly recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and getting yourself a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker which has helped many of our members get to grips with the complexities of diabetes in the early weeks and months.

Please ask any questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly', so if it is bothering or confusing you, please ask! 🙂

Hi Lornwynn, good luck with your GP, sure it will be sorted. Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems. How did you get on with the doctor?
