Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi! Confirmed with Type 2 about 3 months ago, slowly coming to terms with it, and have decided that it would be a Good Thing to look at support in living with it. Been really healthy all my life, so this has come a a shock - I don't think I've fully accepted it yet, so joining a dedicated forum seems like a step forward.

Hi and welcome.

We all know how overwhelming it can be at first and some people take a bit longer to get their head around it than others but diabetes is usually reasonably forgiving in that respect, so a few weeks or months even to get yourself geared up to tackling it isn't too detrimental, providing your levels aren't too high.... but not the sort of thing you want to bury your head in the sand about for years. If levels are very high then best to start making small changes sooner rather than later.

Would you like to tell us a bit about how your diagnosis came about? ie Was it a routine blood test or were you symptomatic and if so which symptoms or perhaps through a hospital admission for something else?

One of the important questions it is helpful for us to know the answer to is....
Have you been prescribed any medication for your diabetes and if so, what?

It can also be helpful to know your HbA1c result? This is the blood test used to diagnose diabetes and track your management of it. It will usually be a number in excess of 47 if you have a formal diagnosis but can be into 3 figures if things have gone seriously astray, so knowing this number helps to give an indication of how significant the lifestyle changes may need to be.

Do you have much/any weight to lose? There are slim diabetics as well as overweight ones and knowing your situation in this respect can also help us to suggest more appropriate advice.

Look forward to hearing more from you and hopefully helping support you towards good management of your diabetes and perhaps remission.

Hi Pyan,
Welcome to the forum. I have learned so much here about how to enjoy my life whilst having diabetes and I am sure you will gain a lot here too.
It will be four years in January since my diagnosis and I look on getting that information now as the start of my journey to becoming far healthier and happier and more comfy in my skin than I was previously. I am in my sixties now and more active and enjoying life than ever. For now you will be learning and as you say coming to terms with the situation but take heart this is the start of a new you and that can be exciting as well as scary.

Welcome to the forum @Pyan

Hope you find the forum a helpful sounding board and source of support.

You might also find a host of practical tips and pointers to understanding and managing your diabetes in the Learning Zone - the orange tab in the main menu.

And fire away with any questions you have as they crop up - we have centurues of lived diabetes experience on the forum, and nothing will be considered too obvious or ‘silly’ 🙂

Thank you all for the welcome!
I have a review on Tuesday, so we'll have to see what they say. I'm on a single daily 500 Glucophage SR Metformin at the moment, but I've a feeling they may want to increase this - I've a lot of lower leg colour. We'll see.🙂

Let us know how things go, and what they suggest 🙂
