Relationship to Diabetes

Hi
I have just been diagnosed and know nothing, hoping to get this turned around with the diet any tips or guidance would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you

Hi and welcome. I was diagnosed last week so in a similar position. There is a lot of helpful information on here especially diet wise. Been really informative for me so hopefully you should be able to find what you’re looking for.

Welcome to the forum @clrelle02

Don’t worry if it all feels a bit overwhelming and scary at the moment. That is completely normal.

Take your time… you don’t have to rush. Diabetes is a pretty slow moving foe. You have time to experiment, to try things out, to see how you and diabetes are going to get along.

When it comes to managing your diabetes, it’s best to make changes to your menu and activity levels gradually - partly because they need to be sustainable long term, but also because very rapid and sudden changes to blood glucose levels are harder on the fine blood vessels, and changing things more gently will give your body time to adapt.

Diabetes is a serious condition, but it’s also one that can usually be managed well with a few changes and adaptations - it’s something that you can learn to live well with, and it shouldn’t stop you doing things you enjoy.

If you’d like a whole smorgasbord of informative modules that you can work through in your own time, you might like to sign up for the Learning Zone.

Members here also frequently recommend Maggie Davey’s Letter and Gretchen Becker’s book T2 Diabetes, the first year, which will give you a solid starting point.

Good luck, and let us know how you are getting on 🙂
