Hello. I have been diagnosed diabetic kevel 2,last week. I’m currently ar hospital learning how to control my blood sugar

Welcome @Emilioalv 🙂 There are lots of Type 2s here who can offer specific advice. Do ask any questions you want.

How did your diagnosis come about? What ‘number’ did you get at diagnosis (ie what was the result of your blood test)? Are you on any medication for it?

Thanks .

I fact I got problems at my left leg. I asked directly to go to hospital.

at hospital, it was confirmed I had cellulitis. The level of sugar in my blood was very high. 150.

i’m still in hospital. My sugar level dropped down to between 4 and 10. With 2 or 3 hypos beginning of the week. I’m waiting for the results of tests to know if I can go home beginning of next week (on Tuesday)

I will have to organise when I’ll be at home. I was said that a community nurse will help me but I don’t have the details yet

I get insuline. 1x a day currently. Was more often at the beginning. I also have some antibiotic for the blood infection (which is resucing, so getting better). I keep positive. I want to improve and get a better live.

As your infection improves, you should find it easier to control your blood sugar @Emilioalv (infection can make blood sugar go higher).

Before you leave the hospital, do ask for details about the community nurse. Ask who is organising the nurse (your GP maybe?) and who you should contact if you need more help.

Hi Emilioalv, welcome to the site.

I'm glad to hear that you're currently getting some support to understand how to manage your health moving forward.

Great shout by Inka to ask about outside help, it can really make a positive difference. Might also be worth having a think about your current diet and how that impacts your bs levels.

We're here to support you so do have a look around and let us know if we can help in anyway.

Thanks. Sorry for the delay in answering. I’ll indeed ask for outside help. I’m currently still at hospital. I’ll know tomorrow / Tuesday if I can be discharged on Tuesday. Looking forward to it. For the moment tge doctor is off for the easter week-end and I’ll have an mot before leaving.

i indeed plan to have outside help.

i’d like to be followed at least at beginning to check if I’m doing things right, for diet, ... exercises, ..

for emotional support, it’s not always easy. I’m living on my own. I’m not really good at building relations with others. I’d also need help on this.
My family lives in Belgium but they are giving support. We stay in touch through whatsapp, even if not the sane than seeing them face to face.
My colleagues are also giving me support

Hope your discharge comes through promptly @Emilioalv, and that you are able to put a support network in place around you - of which the forum can form a small part.

There’s great value in being able to share the struggles, the frustrations, and also the occasional joys and moments of hilarity with others who instinctively ‘get it’.

Hope your levels can come down smoothly and gently, and that you don’t have too many more hypos. Those are no fun :(

Thanks. My levels seems to stabilise between 4 and 7. Didn’t had hypos for 2 days. Will surely build a support network including the forum.

I started with my familly and colleagues for the emotional support. We chat regularly and they support me.

for the monents of joy, it’s more when I can talk to my familly, see the help I get from nurses, one of them in particular with has a very positive mind. It’s quite nice and helpful to see her even when she comes for other patients. Her positive mind is communicative.

it’s more difficult to be positive when we’re surrounded by negative people as some other patients can be. But want to fight and get better.

it’s sometimes also frustrating to do trials and errors to see what’s working best. It takes time and I’m too impatient sometimes. Will be good for mental health to see things going in a right direction. Series of little wins can be good
