Just wondering my blood sugar is a little higher than I would like going to bed..... To correct this should I be altering my baseline insulin? I'm abit stuck as my blood sugars are abit higher than normal recently

Depends how far a unit of insulin would reduce your BG by, I always think. If 1u wipes off 3.0 on your meter, and your BG is 10, then it's worth it.

If mine was 8, I could take 0.5u and still be OK to go to bed.

If you can do it and still have a reasonable 'safety net' then yes, correct it, as long as these are odd occasions.

However if that is always the case, then yes, you do need to look at your basal.

Or is there a possibility that your carb ratio for the evening meal needs adjustment?

Okay it's 8.8 at the minute but I can't give half units think I need to look at my baseline insulin as they seem to be running at 8-10 most of the time recentl! Arghhh I feel I will never mater this diabetes lark

It's tricky because the goalposts often keep moving just when you think you've got it right :( What are you waking up with compared to your bedtime tests, are you lower or higher? What fast-acting insulin do you use? You can get a half-unit pen for novorapid called the Novopen Echo, I've got one and it's great 🙂

Unless my levels are above 10 I wouldn't correct at night. How long after injecting for your evening meal do you go to bed? I always try and leave at least 5 hours because this is how long novorapid lasts in me - I can then be confident that my bedtime reading is only going to be influenced by basal and not the tail end of my novorapid.

I'm on novo rapid and levermir, it prob about 3 hours after my evening meal maybe your right and I could use a half unit pen I think ill ringmyDSN tomorrow, I think aswell it's hard as I'm only needing small amounts of insulin at the min thanks for your advise 🙂

Yeah levimir a morning and night and carb count with novo rapid sorry lol
