I’m sorry if I’m putting this in the wrong place, however my Pump specialist is about to have a meeting and has asked me what works well and not so well within the unit.
My mind has gone blank and can’t think of any good or bad and I was wondering what everyone else’s views are about their Diabetes unit or healthcare team?

Diabetes clinic - most of the staff have been there longer than me! This is great cos you can all be friendly as well as sure the medics amongst them know what they're on about and give good advice for day to day stuff. I'm not exactly as fond of the consultant they changed me to. Known him 2 years and I haven't detected either a sense of humour or a personality as yet.

Can't make consultant appointments with reception - but can make Nurse and dietitian ones, without having to go through the interminable off site 'Hospital' system.

Good points of my unit is they do a all in one appointment where I see the DSN the consultant and a dietitian and they all go through my results with me looking for trends and signs of where I am going wrong and right. Not so good is it is all a bit rushed and no opertunity to see the professionals seperately and hey do not seem to have a podiatrist. My last centre was allot more friendly but a little disorganised.they saw me more as a whole person both psychological and physiological which helped with the strain of being diabetic.

I'd suggest considering topics such as:
appointments - ease of making and availability of convenient times; face to face and telephone
communications - post / telephone / email, as preferred by patients, not just what's best for staff
facilities in clinic - clinical equipment is expected, but things like patient toilets (are queues longer for women than men?); waiting room seats numbers and comfort; magazines, posters, TV etc
staff - clinical effectiveness and manner (personal preference usually means different patients like different things)
Give feedback about what matters to you, what you like, what you don't like.
Your pump specialist is probably asking a range of clinic users - new / experienced, fe/male, range of ages and backgrounds etc. So, the staff probably haven't thought of all the things that you and others will say.
