Hospitals in England will begin to make contingency plans for the five consecutive days of strikes this month by junior doctors later.

The all-out strikes will take place from 08:00 BST to 17:00 BST from 12 to 16 September with more dates to follow.

The Royal Colleges, representing the medical profession's leadership, will meet to discuss their stance on the dispute over a new contact.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the strike was "devastating news".

Call for talks
In May the Royal Colleges brokered a deal to get both the government and the British Medical Association (BMA) into talks which lead to a contract deal, though that was then rejected in July by junior doctors.

Just the sight of that man makes me feel ill :( Completely false sentiments pouring out of his insincere mouth. How can he possibly take pride in his work? :( 😡

I was surprised to see he turned up to be interviewed on Breakfast TV news this morning! As he earlier in the year did not do interview! The Sky reporter suggested he kept is job as Mrs May wanted him to clear his mess up, but the cynic in me does not believe that!

I'm sure it would have been better to have a new person to deal with, but it seems clear that May supports the objectives just as Cameron did. I am beginning to think that Theresa May says one thing then does another - she seems secretly pleased that we voted for Brexit and never campaigned to remain, she's made all sorts of pronouncements about reducing inequality but no real signs of how, nor how she's going to solve the housing crisis.

When Jeremy Hunt said this was "devastating news" he could barely resist licking his lips. He is just waiting for public opinion to turn against the doctors, then he's won. Yes, Theresa May clearly approves of his actions, but she's pretty sharp. She just might sack him over this, and receive the gratitude of the nation.

well I don't want my treatment to be delayed by this strike.
BUT I am happy to put to a little inconvenience to help this abuse of the junior docs! (and if the reult is Jeremy C sorry Hunt gets it in the testes that would be poetic justice!
