A diabetic who turned his life around after being diagnosed with the condition has spoken of his pride at being chosen to become an Olympic torchbearer.

Steve McMenamin will be carrying the Olympic flame through the streets of Brighton next summer.

He will be one of up to 8,000 inspirational people from around the UK to take part in the 70-day torch relay ahead of the 2012 London games.

Well Bloody Nora, Alan !

Kay and Steve were at our wedding in 2000, and we were at theirs same year. Her mum and dad were both vicars, Dad gave her away and Mum conducted the service. I worked with Kay in Coventry city centre, she subsequently moved to a job in Brum and we lost touch then.

Had no idea even that Steve had the dreaded D.

Small world, innit? :D

As soon as I saw the name I thought, how droll, someone in Brighton with the same name as Kay's husband ....... not that McMenamin is too unusual, let alone Steve - but decided to read it anyway ..... LOL

Yup, you've met me, I've met Steve - so that's only TWO Degrees of Separation !!

Trophywench

You'll know what you have to do now don't you🙄

You gonna have to get in touch with the paper and ask them if they will pass your details onto Steve..

And hopefully he and Kay will go wow, then once you've rekindled your lost friendship you'll get him to join here:D

Shame Northener you steph etc didn't get a chance to carry the torch though

I'm gutted I wanted it to be alan and think we should start one of them e-petition things.

LOL at Paul - to whom? do the British Olympic Committee have an e-Petition website?
