Welcome to the forum.
You will get lots of help and support from people here but it will help if you say a bit more about your diagnosis, what your HbA1C is, have you been prescribed any medication, do you have weight to lose as that will make a difference how you approach reducing your blood glucose levels. The threshold for diagnosis is an HbA1C over 47mmol/mol but how much over that will indicate how much work you will need to do.
May find that making some dietary changes is essential and there are a few approaches which will suit different people.
I personally as have many, found following the principals in this link successful. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
This a a low carb approach which means reducing your carb intake to no more than 130g per day, it does not mean NO carbs but is likely a big change from your previous diet.
Other people find a low calorie of shakes based regime works for them and there are some menu plans on the main DUK site.
The Learning Zone also has useful info and links which you can look through to get a better understanding of the condition. With some changes it is a very manageable.

Hello Inka, thanks for the reply. I will find out the additional details of my condition as I don't know what my levels are. My doctor phoned with my results saying I was type 2 and to book an appointment with a diabetic nurse, which I did, but the appointment is 2 months away!! I knew I had an issue as my weight loss was dramatic loosing a stone in 3 weeks, I now don't carry much excess weight. I have bought a glucose test kit which I have not used yet but will post my first result ...regards..Rich

That weight loss is a bit concerning @joner66 Unexpected weight loss like that can be a symptom of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 can come on more slowly in adults and, contrary to popular opinion, isn’t just a childhood condition but an adult one too.

When you had your HbA1C blood test, did they test your ketones too (might have been a urine dip test)?

I also would be concerned that the weight loss could point to Type 1 and you should press from an earlier appointment with the dietician or a further appointment with your GP.
I would also say to use your blood glucose monitor to get some readings of both fasting morning test and some before and 2 hour post meal readings together with a food diary of everything you eat and drink as that will provide evidence for your GP. If your readings are very high so in the high teens then getting some ketone urine test strips would be a good idea (cheap from the pharmacy) as high blood glucose and ketone would be a red flag for DKA which would need prompt medical attention (not 2 months time). Certainly if you feel unwell it would be important to test for ketones.

Welcome to the forum @joner66

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

Hope you can get to the bottom of your unexpected weight loss. If you experience abdominal pain, vomiting, or if your breath has an acetone / pear drop smell, do consider calling NHS 111 or go to A&E in case these are indications of the onset of DKA, which can be very serious

Thank you...I am 4 weeks in now and my weight has maintained but being a newbie I am unsure how to control things. My doctors surgery made me an appointment with the diabetic nurse but that is still 4 weeks away. I have my sugar down from 13.8 to 7.8 and am looking at the website for food advice which has been helpful..

Well done, going in the right direction, plenty of food ideas in the Freshwell link or on the main DUK site.
