Hi Joe, welcome to the group!

Very sorry to hear about the heart attack. I'm 50 and normal (maybe a bit under) weight - diagnosed 7 months ago. They were a bit cagy with me about the type 1 or 2, partly because of my age as type 1's tend to be much younger. But, as you'll find here, there's a real spread of age and experience with this. Go right ahead and post any questions or concerns you may have, there's bound to be someone here that can help.

thanks northerner for your reply.waiting to see a dietician,so any tips will be greatful. thanks joe

Hi Joe, i am also new to this site, my son diagnosed type 1, 7 weeks ago (10) and i have to say that this site has already been incredibly helpful and have actually helped me to sleep better! I hope you find it helpful too and dont be afraid to ask anything, i do , and someone always takes time to answer it! Hope things settle for you soon. Bev

thanks bev for reply surein time i will get use to it,with the help of this site, and speaking to others thanks joe

welcome Joe, i'm sure it's all come as a bit of a shock to you.
How often are you checking your blood sugars? It may be that they are a bit up and down until you settle into your new routine and get your doses sorted. Mixed insulin like you are taking are notoriously difficult to get good control on. It generally takes quite a fixed regieme of eating and injecting to achieve it.
it might seem a bit overwhelming but if you stick around this site and ask questions then you'll get a ton of infrotmation and advice

thanks for that sofaraway,i take my sugar levels 4 times a day,and my fingers are a bit sore and one tip of my finger has gone blue thanks.

Like you when I was first diagnosed I was testing at least 4 times a-day until my fingers were so sore I had to stop testing. While in hospital (not diabetes related) one of the nurses (who had diabetes herself) recommed testing on the side of each finger and never to use the finger tips. That gives at least 6 tests per hand (I only use my index, middle and ring finger of each hand). I alternate hands and fingers and that way I don't get sore fingers any more. Maybe it is worth a try. I hope I have explained this clearly, as it is easier to do than type about!
