Pauline Latham MP OBE, Conservative Member for Mid-Derbyshire, yesterday drew attention to several issues surrounding type 1 diabetes in a Parliamentary speech to Dr Daniel Poulter MP, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health.
During her speech, Mrs Latham MP urged the Government to support JDRF?s Artificial Pancreas project, end the postcode lottery that exists in the NHS regarding access to insulin pumps, and commit additional funding to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes.
Mrs Latham MP emphasised the benefits of the artificial pancreas, stating that it can allow people with type 1 freedom from daily injections and multiple finger prick blood tests, offer improved blood-glucose level control as well as having the potential to prevent some of the devastating complications that can arise from the condition; urging the Government to lend their support to this project.
