Diabetes and gum disease
Keeping your mouth, teeth and gums healthy is an important part of managing your diabetes. Living with diabetes doesn't mean you get free NHS dental treatment. You will still need to book regular check-ups with your dentist or find a dentist if you don't have one.www.diabetes.org.uk
Yes, I understand that. But it is what dentists (and dental hygienists) are experts in. Chance are if you ask your GP they'll recommend you see a dentist. Can’t say I am a huge fan of the dentist so would just see if anyone else has had the same ? Trying to get an appointment is so hard !
Thanks for the quick replyThe only way you will know is seeing your dentist or dental hygienist which your dentist may have and it might be quicker to get an appointment with them.
Oral hygiene is important as it is easy for bacteria which shouldn't be in your mouth to overtake those that will and should be there if your blood glucose is high as they love a sugary environment.
Brushing both teeth and gums well should help with the bleeding and you could try a mouthwash but do try to see somebody as soon as you can.
Thanks - sounds a great regime you haveI use teepee brushes every day and Corsodyl toothpaste.
I dry brush each tooth for 5 seconds (Front and back), use the teepee brushes, and then brush with toothpaste - each tooth for 2 seconds.
If there's any bleeding I use a bit of Corsodyl gel.
I have 3 monthly deep cleans - it's been shown that deep cleaning can actually reduce blood sugar.
Getting blood sugar under control will help, as saliva contains glucose which the bacteria love.
Yes, mine said the same. I don't mind the dentist - he's a very good looking chap!! Sorry, that's very sexist 😱My dentist told me a lot of diabetics have problems with their gums.
