Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello everyone,

I'm really sorry to complain but I feel like I need it today.

I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 2 years old, (now 24).
Three years ago I was also diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, 6 months after that I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease.
I am now suffering with more food intolerance's, getting red marks around my mouth after every meal.

Now, this last part is my own fault. I've not been taking good care of myself. For most of you guys, it seems like you just get on with it and accept it. I just wondered what your mentality's are? Like how do you keep your sense of wellbeing/ motiviation? I want to be more positive and really start again with my control...

Peace and love X

Hi Rhianmay
I would say we are no different from anyone else who has a chronic disease.in that we have little choice other than to get on with it. We all have our good days and we all have our bad days. I tend to focus on the positives in life and things to look forward to in the future .I have a set routine in taking my many meds, testing and injecting. I'm slowly changing my diet to low carbs and the constant blood testing usually resulting in reasonable blood glucose levels within the accepted ranges makes me even more positive. We only have one life and a try not to waste too much of it. A recent bad experience whilst staying in hospital gives me the motivation not to end up there any time soon.
You are still very young so you have time to get your ailments under control and well managed.

Hi there Rhianmay and welcome.🙂 Sorry to hear that you’re struggling. I think we can all appreciate what you’re feeling.

When I’m struggling with it all I try to take (the now famous) baby steps to get back on track - they’re like Alan’s targets. What small steps could you take today or this week to improve your situation? If I’m stuck for an answer, I ask myself what advice I’d give a friend in the same situation. Also, is there something you’d like to do, that you haven’t done for a while, to cheer yourself up?

Stick around, read some posts, ask some questions...my attitude and general outlook is much more positive thanks to this forum...I’m sure the lovely peeps here can have the same effect on you!😛
