Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi Guys.
Im looking for some help / advice / reassurance, I am a type 2 diabetic. My diabeties has all gone wrong, as have a lot of things in my life at the moment! I've lost all sense of direction with my diabetes management and basicly ended up at square one. I was put on Metformin 1000mg twice a day, which initiallly worked reasonably well - however over time the side effect got the better of me, every morning I suffered diarrhea and tummy cramps, and as for the farting - well i work in a care home and ended up letting people think it was the residents! And being surrounded by cakes and treats for the residnts doesn't help. ( I know that sounds funny about the farting) which resulted in me stopping taking it. The Gp doesn't want me to go on Gliclazide as it will make me gain weight i need to loose. I also really struggle with breakfast to the poing i can end up gagging, so thats regularly skipped. i seem to constantly crave sweet things in the evening. So now I am at a stage where all my oringinal symptoms are back, tired, thirsty, peeing for england. I am so tired that I even went out last night to meet friends and ended up asleep in my car for an hour. I feel like im misrable if i follow all the rules and misrable if i dont! To cap it all off I got at letter today to go for my annual review, which I am seriously thinging of avoiding. I know some of you may be thinking for a 36 year old guy, I should grow a pair and get on with it! However any hints or tricks you can offer would be apprieciated.
Are there any solutions for my to be back in control and not it controling me?

Metformin is known for users farting off it.

Do you self test your sugars?

Has your diet changed? Just wondering if that might be part of the problem.

You mention other things have gone wrong, I'm wondering if that might be part of the problem?

I know you won't like this but maybe you should go back on your metformin to help with things?

I do test my sugars when i am taking my metformin, and i know thing will improve if i take it again but its the side effects that get to me - i get paraniod and think people must be thinging i am ''the fate smelly guy'' with all the farting!

Have you tried the slow release Metformin? You will find that a lot better.
What you need to realize is that the more carbs you eat the more your body will react, So simple solution is cut the carbs and take your metformin. 🙂

I agree with Sue about the carbs and metfartin. I'm mostly following the Slimming World original plan, which is low-ish carb. When I have the occasional green day (higher carb, but I still watch the quantities) I am VERY glad I live alone. The effect starts within half an hour of a carby meal. Still not as bad as before I dumped the weight, though.

So, your to blame for the ozone layer lol. Have to say insulin has affected me too, so I'm making my contribution also.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time of it, but you're not on your own in your problems with the pills, it's quite common, but there are options so don't despair. I had an awful time with metfartin. I reckon you could talk to your doctor about alternatives. There are a few, pills such as Glucophage or Pioglitizone and jabs like Byetta or Victoza. Those last two might help with the weight loss as well. Many folk find a low GI/low carb diet is very helpful in bringing down the numbers. Cutting way down on things like spuds, rice, pasta and white bread have helped me.

If you check out our Links section, there's loads of ideas in there and the Recipes section is full of nice things to eat.

I do hope you can get something sorted out soon and begin to reclaim control of your life.

Metformin made me feel really queasy nd sick all the time no one would listen to me and insisted i keep taking it ,a few weeks ago i went for my d review at the surgery i flat out refused to take it anymore so the doc said fine try this then so he gave me a script for linagliptin 1 a day so far there has been a pretty good improvement but still got a long way to go,my point is joining this forum you have made a good start at trying to gain some control, since i joined i have learnt that i dont have take things lying down and now stand up for my self with the docs, my dsn tells me your the one with diabetes its you thats the expert, and you get really good advice from the lovely people on here.
