Hi all

I an 76 with T2D, reasonably well controlled with A1C of 69% lost 23kg in last year through IF. Very recently developed fairly severe itching (mostly back and shoulders). Antihistamine (ceritizine 10mg) helping very little so far. Any ideas?

I think your HbA1c is likely to be either 69mmol/mol or 6.9%

69mmol/mol would be moderately high

6.9% is equivalent to 52mmol/mol which is just a little over the diagnosis line of 48mmol/mol.

Interesting that the itching is mostly back and shoulders. Sometimes itching related to diabetes can be related to fungal infection (eg jock itch). But that often focuses on more contained areas?

Could it be Shingles, ISTR that it was in the news recently, possibly on the rise?

I have arthritis in my shoulders and one shoulder is often infuriatingly itchy, nothing can be seen on the skin. Neither the Physio or the Chiropractor had come across that before so had no idea.
It can be worse at night but at the moment touch wood it is OK. I tried E45 but it only helped a bit.
