It’s finally happened.

Our beloved Accu Chek aviva expert has died. It has an electrical fault ☹️

Please take a moment of silence with me to remember one of the good ones.



Clinic will replace it with whatever the current thing is but if I come into any money any time soon I’m tempted to get a second hand one on eBay. It’s still used a fair bit even though he has a Dexcom as there’s often a slow change over of sensors.

Sorry for your loss. Do Roche not make them anymore? You could try contacting them to see if they can send complimentary replacement?

So sorry for your sad loss! I haven't used one myself but I hear they are very highly regarded meters and such a shame that they have been discontinued.

Probably not that helpful, but I would not recommend a Caresens. Mine wants new batteries all the time and if it isn't at least 20 degrees C, it needs to go down my bra for 5 mins before it will condescend to work and it will waste a test strip if I dare to try using it before this by getting half way through the count down process before it cuts out. It is my second one, as I complained to the manufacturer and they sent me a replacement but both have been the same. Works fine if I warm it up but for over half the year it needs molly coddling. 🙄

No you get offered an instant instead which is less well loved. It will be less of an issue now he’s on the Dexcom the majority of the time but all the clinic staff say the expert is the best meter there ever was.

They don’t make them any more, they say to use an app for dosing calculations now

Loved my Avila Expert. Kept using it without the link for ages until it died. Now on their Accu Chek mobile as the strips for the instants were fiddly to get out of the pot. I like the cassettes and it all being in one piece … but now that one is being stopped . I shall use it whilst I can then switch to an alternative.
